Duckhorn is well known, but Rombauer makes one of my favorite Chardonnays and a pretty mean Cab. I've not been to Clos du Val, but I have heard nothing but good things about their wines....and of course, Staggs Leap and Chimney Rock. Again, make sure you hit V Sittui and Sterling.
As for other wineries in the Napa area....don't miss Silver Oak and its sister winery Twoomey.
There are some great restaurants in Sonoma...Swiss Hotel, Girl and the Fig, Meritage....just to name a few. My favorite winery in Sonoma is Benziger Family Winery (actually in Glen Ellen). Be sure to take the vineyard tour where you will learn all about wine making the biodynamic way....very interesting!
As you head over to Napa, you might want to consider taking the wine
train. I personally have not done this, but people tell me it's pretty
good. As you go wine tasting through Napa, head up the Silverado Trail
and hit as many wineries as you can. Stop for lunch at V Sattui winery.
You can get a nice bottle of wine and sit under the trees in the picnic
area on their grounds. Make sure you hit Sterling Winery and take the
tram up to the vineyards and don't miss Silver Oak Winery. Make sure
you ask Jeff Theiman about the $175 bottle of Silver Oak we drank at the
MBG appreciation dinner!
